Initial Tutor Training 2016

Pictured above are the participants who successfully completed a 30 hour training programme with Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB).  Also pictured are Joan Phelan, Resource Worker with the Adult Literacy Service and Kathleen Dunne, Adult Literacy Organiser.

The programme is designed to train people to work as volunteer tutors within the Adult Literacy Service of LOETB in Laois and Offaly.

Volunteers have a vital role to play in providing time and commitment to aid learning for those who wish to improve their skills in a non-judgemental and safe environment.  The emphasis is on encouraging and facilitating an enjoyable and rewarding learning experience for all students.

Voluntary tutors give 1-2 hours per week and work on a one-to-one with literacy learners to help with reading, writing and spelling.  Some tutors also give one-to-one support in numeracy or computers if they are confident with this.  Our next Initial Tutor Training will take place in Spring 2017 and anyone interested should contact our centre in Portlaoise on 057 8661338 or for more details.
